The Boston Plan was
established in 1984 to support the city's public schools and provided
mini-grants to teachers and college scholarships to graduates until the volunteer board
of trustees approved a reorganization in 1995. Since then, the local education
foundation has worked in close partnership with the district to refine
professional development for all teachers and principals-headmasters and to improve
instruction in all classrooms.
The Boston Plan plays two roles: to
test new ideas that hold promise for accelerating improvements in schools and
to press the district to look at its own policies and practices that slow
reform.
